Government loan
The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers interest-free financing to help Canadians make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable.
The Canada Greener Homes Loan provides up to $40,000 in interest-free financing for approved home retrofits. Get part of your loan upfront for contractor deposits, with the rest after your upgrades are verified.
The loan can help you finance eligible retrofits that are recommended by an energy advisor and that have not yet been started.
Eligibility
There are some eligibility requirements before applying:
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or legally authorized to work in Canada, and own the home as your primary residence with a pre-retrofit evaluation done.
Have not started any retrofits for which you are seeking a loan and meet all program requirements.
Have a good credit history and are not in a consumer proposal, debt repayment program, or bankruptcy proceeding.

Schedule a pre-retrofit evaluation
An energy advisor will evaluate your home and make recommendations. Only eligible retrofits, recommended by an EA are eligible for the loan.
Plan your retrofits and obtain quotes
Review your evaluation and decide which works best for you. Plan all before applying for the loan.
Submit your loan application any work
To apply, provide your pre-retrofit file number, ID with address, property tax, quotes or estimates, and two proofs of income (pay stub, employment letter, bank statement, or T4/Notice).
Complete your retrofits
Make sure to keep copies of all your receipts and invoices along the way.
Post-Retrofit Eval and Funding
After retrofits, request a post-retrofit evaluation and upload final invoices in the loan portal. Once approved, your loan (minus any advance) will be deposited within about 10 days.
* Do not start any work until your loan application has been submitted.
