High-Density Spray Foam
2-Pound SPF, Also Referred To as High-Density, or Closed-Cell Foam:
Closed-cell foam, unlike its open-cell counterpart, boasts exceptional rigidity and solidifies into a material reminiscent of hard plastic. Its defining feature is its closed-cell structure, which lends it a weight ranging from 2 to 4 pounds per cubic foot. High-density foam is characterized by a density of 3 pounds or more per cubic foot.
Ideal for commercial applications, metal buildings, external uses, basements, and crawl spaces, closed-cell foam excels in blocking moisture and air due to its closed structure. A mere 1.5 inches of closed-cell foam is adequate to effectively seal out moisture and air infiltration.
Is 2LB Spray Foam Waterproof?
Spray foam weighing two pounds is inherently waterproof, thanks to its closed-cell design, which effectively blocks water ingress and remains largely unaffected by damp conditions. Besides its waterproof properties, it also serves as a barrier for vapor and air infiltration. These qualities make it an ideal solution for basements, effectively eliminating the musty odor often associated with moisture infiltration.
What Is the R-Value of 2-Pound Spray Foam?
High-density foam offers an R-value nearly double that of low-density foam, typically ranging from 6 to 8 per one inch, or 12 to 16 per two inches. For ceiling applications with closed-cell foam, a thickness of 4 to 5 inches is recommended, while walls typically require 2 to 3 inches for optimal insulation.
